SIX GOLD COAST ART GALLERIES JOIN FORCES TO PRESENT THE INAUGURAL
GOLD COAST CONTEMPORARY ART CRAWL 6-7 DEC, 2008

A premier event showcasing works of contemporary art from selected Gold Coast galleries.Gold Coast, 6-7 December.

For a city not typically identified with a burgeoning contemporary art scene, the Gold Coast Contemporary Art Crawl, will give visitors and locals the chance to experience contemporary art from around Australia, meet gallery owners, artists and collectors, see new spaces and experience some lively events.

The Gold Coast Contemporary Art Crawl is a Cultural Tourism initiative supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund created by the Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council. This premier event celebrates the collaboration of 6 Gold Coast Galleries and 60 contemporary artists which represent a new critical mass of professional art practice on the Gold Coast.The weekend will feature the exciting announcement of one of Australia’s longest running art contests the 2008 Stan and Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize. Total prize money amounting to $30,000 will be awarded to selected contemporary art works which are judged by Lynne Seear the Deputy Director of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.

19 KAREN will host two exhibitions: Magnus Kennedy's Nostalgic Nightmares and a group show by Merry Wilson, Nicholas Chalmers, Ben Havenaar and Hannah Smith called No Promises, and artists talks by Scott Redford and Nic Plowman. Art Galleries Schubert will feature Shhhh… a solo exhibition by Erica Gofton. blkmrkt project’s Shayle Flesser presents Immaculate Heart a solo exhibition of her works. George Petelin Gallery presents Warrior Woman, works by Jennifer Herd plus a Christmas show of gallery artists. Lorraine Pilgrim+Nyst Gallery will host Trinity Leonard’s solo exhibition Undertow.

“This event aims to support for local, national and emerging artists and to inspire art enthusiasts and new visitors to explore innovative art spaces and enjoy the fantastic contemporary art scene on the Gold Coast.”
