This premier event celebrates the collaboration of 6 Gold Coast Galleries and 60 contemporary artists which represent a new critical mass of professional art practice on the Gold Coast.The weekend will feature the exciting announcement of one of Australia’s longest running art contests the 2008 Stan and Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize. As one of the stolen generation, she is driven to research a family history denied to her in her youth. 'A lot of my work is inspired by the conflicts that took place in my grandmothers' country, Mbarbaram, most notably the Irvine Bank Massacre in 1884... there has often been a black armband approach by historians to present the dark side of colonial history. I have tried to comment on the heroism, rather than the pain of this period to present a different story that does not seek to victimise but to memorialise.'
